Sample: Stools 4oC (10 gm)
Status: CY Lab
Schedule: 3 days
Range: Negative (ELISA test)
Remarks: Verotoxin-producing E. coli (E. Coli O157 or VTEC) is responsible for the pathogenesis of diarrhea, hemorrhagic colitis, hemolytic uremic syndrome and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.Cattle, meat products, and other sources have been found to carry these pathogens. They can enter food during the processing of meat and dairy products in cases when hygienic conditions are inadequate. ELISA tests are carried out to detect verotoxin in fecal filtrates in the absence of viable bacteria. Serologic evidence has also been used to support the diagnosis of verotoxin-associated infection.
