Remarks: SGPT(ALT), one transaminase, is a sensitive marker for the detection of hepatocyte injury rather than for biliary obstruction. AST (SGOT) is useful for the diagnosis ofhepatic cirrhosis. Increased AST (SGOT) may also suggest acute drug-induced hepatitis, provided it is due not to viral hepatic infection.
