Parathormone (iPTH) Intact
Sample: Cold serum or EDTA plasma (Fill to its capacity since EDTA excess causes false low PTH values. See specimen collection)
Schedule: Daily
Units: pg/mL
Range: 10 - 70
Remarks: Pathathormone (iPTH Intact Parathyroid Hormone) is used in the diagnosis of parathyroid disease and other diseases of calcium metabolism. PTH also is used during monitoring of patients undergoing renal dialysis. PTH is an hormone which regulates serum calcium levels by increasing the renal reabsorption of calcium and lowering reabsorption of phosphorus. The measurement of PTH is a very useful tool in the differential diagnosis and management of hypercalcemia.
