Sample: Serum
Schedule: Daily
Units: µmol/L
Range: 35 - 80 µmol/L (Therapeutic range)
Factor: 1 µg/mL = 3.63 μmol/L
Remarks: Epanutin (Phenytoin) is used in the treatment of seizures and frequently is chosen as first chose therapy, particularly in adults. Because of phenytoins potential adverse reactions other antiepileptic drugs are often prescribed for children. Phenytoin is commonly given with phenobarbital, primidone, carbamazepine, or valproate when monotherapy fails. Phenitoin may prevent seizures initially in high-risk patients with head trauma.
