Remarks: Evaluation of Anti Thrombin should be considered in patients with venous thrombosis, especially for thrombosis in unusual sites or associated with heparin resistance. Testing should be performed at least two months after the thrombotic event, at a time when the patient is not receiving anticoagulants. Acquired Anti Thrombin deficiency occurs in liver disease; disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC); therapy with heparin, asparaginase, or estrogens; and in nephrotic syndrome. Elevated levels of AT may occur with warfarin therapy.
