Remarks: Anti Sm antibody appears in SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus) and MCTD (Mixed Connective Tissue Disease). Anti-Sm is highly specific for SLE whereas other antibodies, as anti-RNP are found with a variety of rheumatoid diseases with high titers associated mainly with MCTD.Antibodies that produce a speckled ANA (Hep-2) pattern are usually directed against extractable RNP complexes found in the Hep2 cells. Included in this group of antigens are RNP, Sm, SS-A, SS-B, Scl-70, and Jo-1.
