Anti HBc IgG
Sample: Serum
Schedule: Daily
Units:
Range: Negative
Remarks: During infection with Hepatitis B virus (Australian antigen or HBsAg) the Anti-HBc IgM (antibodies IgM against core antigen of Hepatitis B virus) are detectable the same time as SGOT (AST) and SGPT (ALT) rise and continues positive for several months up to a year.
Anti-HBc IgG appears soon after IgM and will persist for many years or for lifetime. In rare cases it may disappear. Anti-HBc IgM may be present in certain cases of chronic hepatitis B. A positive Anti-HBc IgG without other positive hepatitis B markers and/or other liver function tests may represent false-positive reaction.
