Anti GAD Antibodies
Sample: Serum 0.5 mL
Schedule: One week
Status: CY lab
Units: U/mL
Reference Range: Less than 1.5 mL
Remarks: GAD (Glutamic acid decarboxylase) is an enzyme produced mainly by the pancreatic islet cells. Antibodies to GAD is a test useful in the diagnosis, prognosis and management of patients with diabetes because patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus frequently have antibodies to GAD and other islet cell antigens. The test is used in distinguishing insulin-dependent from non insulin-dependent diabetics in cases when the clinical history is ambiguous.
