Alkaline Phosphatase
Sample: Serum 0.5 mL
Status: Accredited
Schedule: Daily
Units: U/L
Range: (See table below)
Remarks: Alkaline Phosphatase values increase in bone growth, healing fracture, acromegaly, osteogenic sarcoma, liver or bone metastases, leukemia, myelofibrosis, and rarely myeloma. Alkaline phosphatase activity often is used as a cancer marker.
High levels of serum Vitamin D may cause elevations in Alkaline Phosphatase. In Paget disease the bone fraction of Alkaline Phosphatase in increased. Although a remarkable increase of Alkaline Phosphatase may occur during viral hepatitis, greater activities of AST and ALT are most common.
